Chess Club 26/11/09
Being completely ignorant to the inner workings of chess, I was actually rubbish. Katie seemed to have some sort of vague knowledge and managed to do something right and actually took a few of her competitors pieces. I, on the other hand, am not suited to holding several different things in my head at once. If all I had to focus on was one piece at a time I'd have been fine but that's not how chess goes and so I was bum to say the least. I did learn what castling was though! Well done me. The Chess Club is at lunchtimes on Thursdays in Mr Emery's room in the maths department. Go along if you want to hone your chess skills and have some good fun!

P.S. You may notice a few blogs are missing. Katie had a few technical issues but we'll get them sorted as soon as!

Bookworms :)
Bookworms 12/10/09
Well Bookworms was an experience! Me and Katie weren't exactly the target age group for this club it gives budding first year readers the chance to read books and share their opinions on them. At this particular meeting we all picked a book we'd read and wrote a review of it for the library. Now I know what you're thinking: are books really for me? I think we all know they are! So head on down to the Bookworms during Thursday lunchtimes in the library :)

Foreign Film Club
Foreign Film Club 10/11/09
The Foreign Film Club! What to say? Epic times. That's what. We watched "El Che", a biopic about Che Guevara and the Cuban revolution. Despite being absolutely knackered me and Katie were both pretty interested (although we both agreed we probably needed to be more alert to fully understand it). Anyway, despite knowing the ending (that's the trouble with films about stuff that's happened) it was still tense at parts and exciting at others. We both highly recommend it! As for the club itself it seems like a lot of fun but there aren't many members so for anyone at Portlethen who enjoys films regardless of the language you should definitely go. It's on Tuesdays after school with Mr Buré in the languages corridor :)
